#9 Flipped Classroom and Powerpoint

The flipped classroom inverts traditional teaching models to provide greater in class interaction for students. The traditional model of in class lecture by a teacher with concept understanding through homework at home is reversed. Teachers can use technology such as video lectures to have their students to the instructional, lecture style learning at home. This then allows teachers to use class time to do activities and check/develop a deeper understanding of the material. One website that provides video lectures to students is Khan Academy.

Through the Information Dissemination project, I think I learned the most about powerpoint. I learned how to use master slides, which is a tool that I cannot believe I did not know about before. There have been so many times that I got frustrated by slide formatting and this would have been a solution. I also learned how to create audio narration for a powerpoint in this project and this could be useful to me for online materials for my class. I liked that I was able to create something similar to a class material but I found the recording process a bit frustrating.

Through the Interaction assignment, I learned about including audio clips into animations in a powerpoint, which could be useful to add to a class powerpoint. In this assignment I really enjoyed creating a game and if I were to do it again, I think I would just like to have done something a little more complex.

  1. I hear people talk about Khan Academy a lot but I've never used it before. Is it something that you use to or currently use as a student?

  2. I've heard of Khan academy, but I don't think I have ever used it. My teachers preferred to use most crash course videos, or brain pops, which are also a really good source for educational videos.

  3. For the information dissemination projects, I also learned how to use the master slide for the first time. There are a lot of unique options on PowerPoint that you can use to refine your presentations that I learned about from these projects..

  4. I loved Who Wants to be a Millionaire as a kid and your game looks interesting and I am excited to check it out. I also learned a lot about power point while doing these projects and I think the information ended up being very beneficial.

  5. I was so confused at what master slides were until today, I'm impressed that you not only knew how to do it, but found it useful. Also I really like you game idea!
